Gee, Thanks FEMA!

When I made my routine news sweep, I ran across the headline, “Hurricane Evacuees Staying In Hotels Get Reprieve From FEMA,” my blood started boiling.  Not only did these LOSERS (for the most part) totally trash these hotels, turning 2,3 plus-star hotels to cheap, extended stay motels.  They also make the lives a living hell for the employees of these hotels as well as provided the PAYING customers with virtually NOWHERE to lodge for the past 3 months!!  So now they are getting yet MORE of a “free ride” for an ADDITIONAL 14-39 days?  This is mindless.  What’s even more mindless is the belief that this decision was made in the name of compassion.  What these “evacuees” fail to realize that the very government assistance that they covet is hurting them more that it will help them.  There’s NOTHING compassionate about making the evacuees DEPENDENT on someone ELSE for their own survival.  In fact, for many of the evacuees that have yet to find housing 3 months later have ALWAYS depended on someone ELSE for their survival—LEADING THEM TO WHERE THEY ARE TODAY—homeless, broke, uneducated, lazy, and clueless.  Although, yes, I know there are exceptions to the rule, however they are rare.

There’s no doubt that Hurricane Katrina has devastated the lives of those from several states.  The disaster has destroyed homes, businesses, and cities as a whole.  However, the people who are SELF-sufficient and are NOT dependent on others for their survival are already on the fast track to recovery.  They aren’t waiting on another handout—in fact, many of those people had INSURANCE.  In other words, they properly PLANNED for an event of this magnitude.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s very difficult to expect losing your home and personal possessions in a matter of hours, however, that doesn’t justify the FAILURE to prepare for such a loss.  Even for those who didn’t have insurance, those that are accustomed to take care of themselves are “rolling up their sleeves,” and going back to WORK—yes work, what a LOST concept in all of this.  It is not uncommon to see ABLE-bodied males (not man) sitting around, laid up, waiting on someone ELSE to “swoop down” and rescue them!  There are SO many jobs available—especially considering that many of these evacuees are spread throughout the country—that the only reason for NOT having one is because they don’t want to work!  NO, a person barely out of high-school, let along a dropout, is not going to find a 6-figure job right away, however, they could easily find a job that pays them enough to be able to provide for themselves.  Furthermore, there’s plenty of housing available as well.  The only reason that these people haven’t found housing is because it isn’t in a “convenient” vicinity of a nightclub.  There’s tons of livable land in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana, so if it were that critical, then they could find proper housing instead of turning vacation and business lodging into downright ghettos.  However the self-sufficient citizens out there are taking the best job available until they can do better, and finding adequate housing for THEMSELVES until they can do better.  Eventually they will restore some semblance of normalcy in their lives.  Unfortunately, with the assistance of FEMA, the entitlement culture—the culture that believes it’s the DUTY of someone ELSE to provide for their basic needs—has also restored the same sense of normalcy by committing crimes, laying up all day, and REFUSING to find work.

What we need to remember is that hurricanes, and other natural disasters in this country are NOT new phenomenon—neither is insurance.  However, there was total devastation in the past to people who were insured as well as those were uninsured.  Furthermore, back then there was no FEMA, welfare, food stamps, or any other vote-buying government handouts.  In case you are wondering, “Well how in the world did these people survive?”  The answer is very simple:  by restoring order THEMSELVES.  No lines in government offices, no waiting on checks.  These people spent that time REBUILDING their homes, working to make income in order to fund the repair efforts.  If these victims of the natural disasters back then had children, they didn’t use them as a pawn to get government handouts, THEY PUT THEM TO WORK!!!  Not only did it make the children feel more vital to their family’s survival, it instilled a proper work ethic that would eventually benefit them when they became adults.  However, today that’s not the case.  Courtesy of the government, they have developed a mentality that it is someone ELSE’S responsibility to care for them—all in the name of the children—the very children that would be better served if they had parents that actually gave a damn about their well being.  Other than the provider (since there usually isn’t a MAN to do that) of more government handouts, the children really are of no use for the parents, as confirmed by the reaction in Georgia when Governor Sonny Perdue called for the closing of schools for 2 days due to the potential threat of Hurricane Rita.

What angers me the most in all of this is that these government handouts, which aren’t even met with a simple “thank you”, REWARD the very behavior that leads to the culture of dependence in the first place.  If the City of New Orleans weren’t mired in corruption, for the better part of 40-plus years, then this type of disaster wouldn’t have had the impact that it did there.  There is an entire culture of people that were displaced after the hurricane that have NEVER had to do anything for themselves.  Since that is the case for those people, then they will continue to EXPECT government handouts for the rest of their lives.  We have to go no further than failed liberal Democratic policies as the reason for this mentality.  Therefore extending the “deadline” for FEMA to stop paying hotel costs is going to mean very little to those who are still depending on the “free ride.”  I sure hope you don’t believe that this is going to be the FINAL deadline, either.  Why?  Because these people don’t have any desire to do ANYTHING for themselves.  Why is that?  Because doing the necessary things for SELF it is not required in society today.  So if the taxpayers, i.e. the productive members of society, think this will all end after December 15th, or January 7th, then you are sadly mistaking.  These people will continue to spend whatever money they receive (from US, no doubt) on club preparation items, drugs, and hair & nails.  Also these people will also continue to substitute finding work with sleeping ALL day, and do the very things (sex) to make more children that WE have to eventually care for—AGAINST our will.
